Wild Thyme (Thymus polytrichus)

Description

Flower diameter c 6-9 mm. Leaves c 4-8 mm.

Low-growing cushion-like plant with purple flowers. Flower-stems very hairy on two sides and much less hairy, if at all, on other two sides.

Other features: Like many of our small upland plants is actually a woody shrub. Roots at nodes of creeping branches. Flower 2-lipped as with most labiates. Upper lip flat, not hooded; lower lip with 3 well-developed lobes.

 

Habitat

Common in dry stony places from sea level to high in hills. 14th August 2007 On limestone floor of quarry (Trowbarrow) close to eyebright and Carline Thistle not aromatic
