Common on roadsides and as a garden weed, scrambling over other vegetation.

Flowers c 10-12 mm long.

Distinctive for the large number of flowers, 10- 40 densely packed in a one-sided spike at the end of a long bare stalk. Flowers deep blue-purple, not pale like Wood Vetch. Leaflets normally 8-12 pairs, leaves end in branched tendrils.

Other features: Calyx teeth very unequal, the upper ones minute.
